Hartford, CT 06106
BVBB is excited to make its very 1st appearance at the Firebox!  Our very own Dave Dick just had a chance to see it up close and personal and he tells me this is a true bluegrass fan venue.  As our host Nick Novia says: "Folks, you really owe it to yourself to come and see what everyone is talking about! The friendliest bluegrass venue ever! It's true, "everyone knows your name," and if they don't, they will after a night out here at the Firebox! It's more like a club, and you're invited! That's why everyone is starting to call it the "Firebox Bluegrass Club!"
The Firebox features many specials…$4.00 pints of locally brewed drafts! $15.00 "growlers"…that's a ˝ gallon of beer, including refills!!! The food is most delicious, and fresh! All wines at $60.00 or less are half off. Please join us and help the bluegrass community establish another great venue! Contact Nick if you want to sing a song or pick one or two! It's a fun night out in "Frog Hollow!" Many folks do. Come early and get a good seat! The doors open at 4:30PM!

Sankofa Dance Concert:  "BlueGrass / Brown Earth - From Africa to Bluegrass
UMass Amherst
Fine Arts Center Concert Hall
151 Presidents Drive, Amherst, MA‎

BVBB gets to take part in this highly energetic blend of African dance, rhythms, traditional banjo, and bluegrass music, featuring original choreography by Chuck Davis and the Sankofa visiting artists. The performance, rooted in the history of African culture, embraces American traditions to tell the story of Africa's contribution to Bluegrass music - the iconic banjo.
"It is an unanticipated surprise" says Davis.

Davis' concept for the ballet is inspired by the Akonting, the West African string instrument that gave birth to the banjo. Davis hopes this cultural arts fusion will generate diverse audiences and educate them to the multicultural influences in contemporary expressions of art. Davis believes that divine providence brought this opportunity together.

"Many people don't know the origins of the banjo," he says. "And many black people turn their noses up at [banjo music] because they don't know where it came from."

Tickets can be purchased:
At the UMass Amherst Fine Arts Center Box Office

Fresh produce, baked goods, arts, culture, crafts and music!

The Blackstone Valley is rich in historic sites and we are always challenged to find a way to bring people together to share these treasures.
