Oxford Congregational Church  OXFORD — The Blackstone Valley Bluegrass Band will be performing Sept. 26th at the First Congregational Church of Oxford

With Dave Dick on banjo, his brother Bob Dick on guitar, Dan Nowlan on mandolin and Ken Taylor on upright bass, this original lineup has been together for 15 years — rare for bluegrass bands these days. Over the years, this seasoned group has built a solid and ever-expanding repertoire to go along with an engaging stage performance. They're all multi-instrumentalists and play a wide range of bluegrass styles. But what really sets them apart are their powerful three- and four-part harmonies.

Come check out Blackstone Valley Bluegrass to hear some great bluegrass music, smooth harmonies, fast but tasteful pickin', and most importantly, to have a great time. Bring the whole family.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m. with strawberry shortcake and other goodies available to purchase before the show and during intermission. Show begins at 7:30 p.m.

The First Congregational Church is across from the bandstand and is wheelchair-accessible. There is ample on-street parking.

   SORRY!
We're sorry to tell you all that our concert on Saturday has been postponed.
Saint Mark’s, a private school located adjacent to the Steeple Coffeehouse (at the Pilgrim Congregational Church) is having their 150th anniversary celebration Saturday. We have been told in no uncertain terms by the town that there will be no parking left by 7:00 PM and that we are not allowed to reserve any, even in our own lot, because the lot is owned by the town. We have rescheduled our concert for the end of the Steeple's season, on June 11. More details will follow. So sorry to have to cancel, but with no nearby parking, and the whole town center being used by the school, we had to do this.

Wachusett Music Series presents Blackstone Valley Bluegrass Band at First Church in Sterling

Blackstone Valley Bluegrass has been entertaining audiences all over New England and beyond for over 15 years. Their sound is contemporary, yet still firmly planted in the traditional sound of bluegrass. What can you expect at a BV show? Fiery picking - Dave Dick on banjo and guitar is one of New England's finest multi-instrumentalists. Tight trio harmonies - Bob Dick on guitar has had a legacy of being in bands with great harmony singing, and brings that level of detail to all the trios the band sings. Gospel quartets - Ken Taylor on bass not only makes the ground shake with his powerful bass playing, but also his deep bass voice. Energy - Dan Nowlan on the mandolin puts out a tremendous amount of energy and emotion to all the songs which makes for a dynamic performance. The band has two CDs available - Debut (2007) and Soulshine (2011) and Bob Dick has his CD Life's Highway which was released in August of 2014.

These Christmas shows started 12 years ago with Blackstone Valley Bluegrass' "Christmas in the Valley" show based off of Bob Dick's CD "Tidings of Comfort and Joy".  This got Rick Lang interested in writing original Christmas songs and the subsequent recording of the "Season of My Heart" CD. It just took off from there!

Today, Blackstone Valley Bluegrass along with Rick Lang, Karen Wilber, Roger Williams, Amy Gallatin, and Kristine Dick have put together a broad spectrum of traditional, contemporary, and original Christmas music set in an acoustic style that is truly a unique experience. We present 6 concerts this year for 2015!
